JUDGE
Yiannis G. Economou was born in 1975 in Heraklion, Crete. He is a graduate of The London School of Economics and Political Science (BSc Economics and Government) and holds a Masters degree by Cornell University, The Hotel School, Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (Master of Management in Hospitality) with a specialization in hotel development.
He is the Managing Director and major shareholder of a private corporation that owns and operates two hotels in Heraklion Crete, the Galaxy Hotel Iraklio – 5*, 260 beds, and Galaxy Villas Resort – 4*, 220 beds in Hersonissos.
With a significant international experience in managerial positions for organizations such as Marriott International, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts, he has participated in major tourism projects around the world.
Having a broad and long-standing active involvement in Tourism, he is a Vice President of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels and a member of the Hellenic Tourism Confederation (SETE), participating in SETE’s Investment, Human Resources and Education, Marine Tourism, Cultural Tourism, and MICE Tourism work groups.
Moreover, he is a member of the Leadership Sector of the Hellenic Corporate Management Society (EEDE) and also participates in the “Ye Hosts” Honorary Society of the Cornell Hotel School.
He is married to the American International Relations scientist and educator Emily Allyn Trayes and they have four children.
